No sooner than we announced that a new girl was available, Ava dropped the ball on us, casting further doubt on phone interviews.
For those of you that are un-initiated in the interview process, a Midlands Maidens phone interview is one carried out over WhatsApp, which allows us to see our interviewee and work out if she would be an asset to this industry.
There is no substitute for face-to-face interviews though, which amplify any perceptions of quality or perceptions of doubt.
Ava’s perceptions of doubt were cleverly hidden, only to surface a few days later.
Everything seemed fine on the phone interview except for one observation – Ava flatly refused to take any selfies that showed her shiny silver headboard on her bed.
Her reasoning behind this decision?
‘Oh I’m a social media influencer so most people would recognise me if I used that headboard as a backdrop’.
And then another doubt on her photos that she sent over, or rather NOT the photos, but the email address she used to send them.
‘Oh that’s a family email address, I’ll need to delete the photos – can you send them to the other one?’
Communications were fine up to this point – the main problems though were her location, and her head-less images.
Many clients rang up to enquire, but as usual no-one wanted to book her due to not being able to see her face, even if it was a blurred face.
Finally, we got a client that was interested in her, but she insisted on a two-hour waiting time, and then wanted to charge travelling time too, even though we advised against it, as it was only a 20 minute drive.
