Browser Resizing
Our latest preloader is optimised for mobile phones. Here’s how to view it properly on a pc by using simple browser resizing.
People using mobile phones to view the website are becoming increasingly important, as at the last count they numbered up to 70% of our total viewers.
Viewing on a mobile device is really simple, as if a preloader doesn’t look right, you just turn the phone sideways, from a portrait view to a landscape view, and there is your image all nicely resized.
I know what you’re thinking though – how do I view the resized image on a pc?
I turn the pc sideways and nothing happens? What gives?
Well it’s really simple, and you don’t need to give yourself a hernia by lifting your pc to turn it sideways.
We’ll show you how to do this by using the official Midlands Maidens pc, and from this very post so that you can see how it’s done.
This first picture shows our pc as we’re writing this blog post. Note how in the top right corner, we’ve added a red highlight of the icons you’ll need to know about. From left to right, these are ‘Minimise’, ‘Restore Down’, and ‘Close’, which should be labelled as such if you just hover over them. It’s the ‘Restore Down’ icon that we’re going to concentrate on here.
Step one then, click onto ‘Restore Down’:
You’ll now see your pc wallpaper with the pc screen overlayed onto it. Hovering over either the left edge, or the right edge, or even over the top and bottom edges will show you a double arrow icon – we’ll do this by hovering over the right edge.
Step two – when you see the arrow icon, click down on it, and without letting go, pull it to your desired size, and then let go.
And that’s it! You can now see exactly what a mobile phone user will see! And just to prove it, here is the Rat Dom preloader augmented with browser resizing on a pc, but in a mobile view:
Note that you can also see the ‘call us now’ icon, which is reserved for mobile phones but is now also visible to pc users by using browser resizing.
We also decided to add this short video which shows what you can do if you fuck this process up and lose your screen from Telstra in Australia:
