It’s a long overdue return to the Music Box this time for the sultry Taylor Momsen and The Pretty Reckless with ‘Heaven Knows’.
Oh Lord, heaven knows, we belong way down below (go) Oh Lord, heaven knows, we belong way down below (sing) Oh Lord, tell us so, we belong way down below Oh Lord, tell us so, we belong way down below Way down below, way down below Way down below, way down below
Released as the second single from their ‘Going to Hell’ album, Heaven Knows was their first single to top the US Billboard Rock chart, and it also topped the UK Rock Singles Chart.
Chris Payne of Billboard likened the single to Queen’s We Will Rock You with Joan Jett vocals.
Rolling Stone also praised the track, calling it a ‘full-on glam stomp about troubled teens’.
The video features a half-naked Momsen in black eye shadow, surrounded by burning books and tattooed teenagers in a darkened high school.
She seems to take three parts in the video, the first as the singer of the song, the second as a trashy schoolgirl, and finally as the high priestess that demands your attention.
Enough of the waffling, let’s view it!
We cannot believe that we were the only ones that weren’t taken aback by the opening of Ms Momsen’s long robe three parts through, and the timing for this by the director (Ms Momsen herself) was cooked to perfection!
After needing a couple of weeks to recover, we’ll see you back in the Music Box next time!
It's back to the dystopian state of Gilead for this Music Box post, titled 'This Womans Work' as a homage to the wonderful scriptwriting and soundtrack.
